Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may exacerbate DH; however, ibuprofen appears to be safe. Gulphapyridine or sulphamethoxypyridazine have been used to suppress the skin manifestation. It takes several months for the skin to improve on these drugs and they do not protect against the serious complication of gluten hypersensitivity.
Seven gluten items that are hidden in our lives that can kill us was a total surprise to me when I found them in my research and will list them below. Food is our comfort zone but if items are hidden then they could kill us and we would not even know what happened to us.
Lipstick
Play Doh
Postage Stamps
Envelopes
Salad Dressings
Sauces
Medications
Heart Disease and cancer are high death risks from gluten. Medical study shows among other diseases that 35 percent increased risks in those with gluten sensitivity but do not have gluten sensitivity disease.
It seems that 99 percent of people who have a problem eating gluten but do not even know it.
If you are a bread eater (I am) and have not researched wheat and its effect on our health, I keep reading about dirty wheat. How many of us have eaten it all our lives, how are we to know that anti -nutrients in grains that rob our bodies of minerals.
Ladies, how many of us have never known that lipstick has gluten? I never heard of such a thing.
Another one that concerns me is play doh, our children love it and play with it all the time!
Not too concerned about envelopes and stamps as we do not lick them any more.
Now if our Dr. prescribes a medicine for us, and we do not know much on that subject, how are we going to cope with this problem, since we have no idea we have one?
Another one that I am thinking about is salad dressing, my thought is the safest thing to do is order vinegar and olive oil when you are invited out to lunch.
Sauces are something we have, especially when we eat out. They are poured on our fish, chicken, potato, beef, eggs, and the list goes on and on.
Seems that the only thing you can do at this point is request no sauces or avoid them on the menu.
This is because chains like McDonalds or Wendys have made publicly available their menus for everyone to see, so its easy to spot what is or is not gluten free.
For instance you can go ahead and order a bunless Big Mac in the McDonalds. While it may get you some strange looks, this actually tastes quite good, almost like a burger salad. This may not seem very appetizing but it can save you in a pinch. Especially if you are in a foreign country and the waiters at some restaurants wont understand properly if you ask them "Is there no wheat?"
Potatoes and Gluten
You should stay away from the fries at McDonalds because they are coated with wheat. Hash browns are also not gluten free, although they may seem like it. If you are lucky enough to find a Wendys, rejoice! They have one of the more diverse Gluten Free fast food menus among the different chains. You can order baked potatoes, salads, chili, and up to eight desserts.
